Welcome to the jungle!

This accommodation is uniquely designed and hand-built using traditional construction methods, ecological techniques and recycled/reclaimed materials. On the second and third floor of the house I have built two apartments as vacation homes that are suitable for everything from a single person up to groups of seven people. Each apartment has a separate entrance and a spacious open living area.

The Canopy Loft is ideal for families or groups of up to five people, but even if you’re travelling alone or with your partner you’ll feel right at home in this cozy apartment. The apartment consists of three rooms with one single bed, one bunk bed and one queen-size bed. The feature that stands out most is the open kitchen area where you’ll feel as if you’re standing in the treetops while preparing a delicious caribbean meal.

The Jungle Loft on the other side of the house can comfortably accommodate even groups of up to seven people on two stories, but this apartment can be rented by couples or solo travellers too. The apartment consists of three rooms with one king-size bed, three single beds and one queen-size bed. Apart from the big terrace that spills out into the surrounding lush vegetation there is an additional balcony on the opposite side of the house. Some of our guests even found it difficult to go the nearby beach because they felt so cozy relaxing on the open terrace.

If you choose Casa Manu Ciao as your vacation home you can truly commune with nature. After coming back home from surfing or swimming at the beach you can relax on the couch and watch the Costa Rican jungle around you. Wildlife abounds here and during your stay you’ll wake up to a symphony of exotic birds cawing and fall asleep to the rolling tide from the nearby beach. With a little bit of luck you’ll be able to spot lots of animals that live in the vibrant rainforest around the house. So far we’ve spotted raccoons, opossums, coatis, sloths, howler monkeys, armadillos, snakes, agoutis and almost every day we see toucans, geckos, hummingbirds and poison dart frogs.

Your accommodation offers a fully equipped kitchen, hot water showers, mosquito netting and curtains, fans, a washing machine and other amenities and the perfect location to enjoy the beautiful nature, tranquil beaches and surfer hot spots or to explore the lively party town of Puerto Viejo. If you come by car you can park right in front of your vacation home.

I have worked on my house (my passion) for the last 10 years. It consists of three levels and incorporates several unique features in the construction. Fallen trees used as structural beams, bamboo and straw thatches all give the house a natural feel. I have designed, constructed and built the structure myself and have been living in it for the past several years. I built it with no blueprints or help from architects and was just just drawing from the inspiration and natural beauty that surrounds my property.

The property is located at a private road within a gated community so we don’t have issues with safety. In addition both vacation rental apartments have either a safebox or a hiding space for your valuables.
